Annual Jazz Fest

The Nicodemus Jazz and Blues Festival began in 2003 by Ernestine Van Duvall of Ernestine's BBQ and continued after her passing by her niece, Angela Bates. The festival features artists from Kansas City and local talent. Brothers Making Waves (BMW) of Kansas City, Mudbone - acoustical blues of Hays and Eric Nevins - Nicodemus' own, are amoung some of the featured artists. Annual Pioneer Day

The annual Pioneer Day is held in early October. The activities highlight a unique aspect of the history of Nicodemus and its settlers. Recent themes were:

  • 2008 Early Politicians
  • 2007 Family Trees
  • 2006 Military Veterans from Civil War to Present

Pioneer Day 2009 will be October 10th, noon to 5:00pm. This year's presentation is "Revisiting Nicodemus Through Film" with the showing of documentaries, home movies, news clips ranging from Disney, HGTV, University of Nebraska, Kansas University and Sunflower Journey. Come hungry for the traditional free chili feed.

Annual Christmas Tree Trimming Party

The annual Christmas Tree Trimming Party is held early in December. Prairie Dell Tree Farm of Cedar Bluff provides the tree for the event. The public is encouraged to bring ornaments and help decorate the tree. Refreshments and Christmas music add to the festivities.
